Installing Today's New Energy Efficient Systems
Much of the talk about furnaces these days is how energy efficient they are. Over 50% of the energy used in an average home is used for heating and cooling; and with the rising cost of energy, saving energy with a high efficiency furnace is saving you money every time it comes on. Furnaces efficiency is given an AFUE (stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating and it is based on how much heat a furnace sends into your home or business versus the total energy consumed by the furnace. For example, new high efficiency furnaces with an AFUE rating of 90% means that for every dollar you spend heating your home or business 90 cents is turned into usable heat and 10 cents is lost. The higher the rating, the more efficient the furnace is and the more you save on your energy bills. Older gas furnaces that utilize pilot lights have estimated AFUE ratings of 55 percent to 65 percent compared to newer high efficiency Trane furnaces that have an AFUE of up to 97.3%! It becomes apparent how much you could be overpaying on your monthly energy bills. If you are in need of a new high efficiency furnace for your home, call Brewer Heating and Cooling. Our system designers can estimate your current operating costs as well as educate you about the new systems you can choose from. They can also get you the information you need to make a decision, like, “How much will l save a year with each of these three options?”, and “What will each of these options you’ve provided me do differently for my comfort compared to my old system?”. Our goal is to teach you and get you answers so that you can make an educated decision on your own. We WILL NOT give you a one size fits all system with a price and beg you to purchase from us. It’s a big decision, and quite the investment. Make an educated decision, without pressure.

Ductless Mini Splits
The advantages of mini splits are their small size and flexibility for zoning or heating and cooling individual rooms. As air-source heat pumps, mini splits have two main components, the outdoor compressor/condenser and an indoor air-handling unit. Mini splits have no ducts, so they avoid the energy losses associated with the ductwork of central forced air systems. According to the US Dept of Energy, duct losses can account for more than 30% of energy consumption for space conditioning, especially if the ducts are in an unconditioned space such as an attic. Mini Splits can both heat and cool a room and since they don’t require any ductwork, they can be installed in room where installing ductwork is not practical.
